FISHING IN HOKKAIDO TOUR JUNE/JULY 2014
Friend, wild flower expert, and robust mountain trekker, Barbara, returned to Japan this summer, with her partner, to fish in Hokkaido. Quest Japan arranged their 10-day fishing trip. The tailor-made tour was guided by our Japan managing director, Isao (also a keen fisherman), and a local fishing guide.
The trip included hiking on Daisetsuzan and Meakandake. What Hokkaido may lack in terms of traditional Japanese culture, it makes up for in its extraordinary volcanic landscape and stunning summer alpine flowers. And river and lake fishing. The fabulous seafood, some of Japan's finest, is a bonus.
Barbara and Mark loved their tour, and kindly sent the following words after their trip:
“Isao, you were a total sport the whole time and made our trip a joy. Mark and I enjoyed your friendliness and willingness to explain the Japaneseness of the many things we didn't understand … Murakami-san is a national asset as well as a very nice man. Both Mark and I have fished with a number of good fishing guides, but Murakami is very skilled and very, very good, and we covered fabulous water. Mark and I agree that he is the best fishing photographer that either of us have ever met. His love of nature runs deep. It was a privilege to fish with him.”
As the pictures show, this was a great tour; river fishing in Hokkaido is rather more sensible, and fruitful, than salmon fishing in the Yemen!
