Haiku poems composed during the Mountains of Central Japan Tour June/July 2008

Urban plains reveal rural peaks

Steep pine and cedar slopes to scramble

Exertion rewarded with stunning vistas

Alpine flowers on granite ridges, shrines atop

Mountain lodge, date Nineteen Twenty

Tatami bunk, airless, curtained, slightly sweaty

But miso soup and rice a-plenty

Watch plasma telly, twenty twenty

Retreat and contemplate or communicate?

So, text; 'Mntns good, hard work, views gr8'

Eight? Group of Eight? Handshakes solemn

Greetings profuse and declarations signed

Technical solutions are the answer

Planet saved, alpine flowers and miso bunkhouse
